The UAE’s Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, said on Sunday the country’s food supply remains secure, supported by global trade links and a strong logistics infrastructure.
Speaking during an inspection visit to a Lulu hypermarket in Sharjah, he said the UAE does not rely solely on local stockpiles but benefits from a wide network of international suppliers, allowing access to alternative sources if disruptions occur.
He added the country’s ports, transport networks and storage facilities enable it to maintain steady supplies of essential goods.
The visit formed part of efforts to monitor price stability and ensure the availability of food particularly during Eid Al Fitr, a period of increased demand.
Officials said major retailers play a key role in maintaining supply and stabilising prices, acting as a link between global supply chains and consumers.
The inspection covered a range of products including fresh produce, meat, dairy and other essentials, with authorities reporting adequate supply levels and no signs of unusual demand.
Retailers said they were working with international suppliers to ensure continued availability, with thousands of tonnes of food imported in recent weeks.
Authorities also pointed to ongoing discounts and promotions on key items such as rice, cooking oil and poultry, supported by strong supply levels.
The Ministry said it continues to monitor prices across hundreds of retail outlets using a real-time tracking system, and urged the public to report any suspected violations or price increases.
