The UAE has expressed its solidarity with Afghanistan after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Mazar-e Sharif city in the northern region, killing at least 20 people and leaving hundreds injured.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the people of Afghanistan, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Footage released by the Afghan Ministry of Defence showed military rescue teams working through the rubble. The United Nations mission in Afghanistan said in a post on social media platform X it was on the ground supporting rescue efforts.
"We stand with the affected communities and will provide necessary support," the post said.
