The UAE Food Bank will distribute more than 5 million meals during Ramadan to feed half a million families and over three million workers.
An average of 166,666 meals will be delivered daily to beneficiaries both locally and internationally.
Over 5,000 volunteers will be supporting the bank’s activities during the holy month, while more than 350 strategic partners, including food facilities, hotels and restaurants will be involved in the initiative.
"With these initiatives, our objective is to promote responsible food management and reduce food waste. We further aspire to cultivate a sense of social responsibility, encourage volunteerism, and actively engage in gathering and distributing financial and food donations to beneficiaries," said Dawoud Al Hajri, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Food Bank.
He also emphasised the bank’s goal to divert 975 tonnes of food waste away from landfills during Ramadan, equivalent to planting 102,135 trees annually.
The food bank’s commitment to supplying meals to beneficiaries includes diverse sub-initiatives and campaigns, including the 'Your Iftar is on Us' campaign, the 'No for Wasting Food' initiative, the 'Cook of Thousand Meals' initiative, 'Food Parcel' and 'Iftar with the Workers'.
Additionally, 25 educational programmes will be implemented to raise awareness on environmental sustainability, social responsibility and volunteering.
The UAE Food Bank has reached 35 million beneficiaries locally and globally since its establishment in 2017.
