The UAE is celebrating International Day of Happiness on March 20, reaffirming its commitment to improving the well-being and quality of life for all residents and citizens.
The country is a pioneer in integrating happiness as a core element in government policies, recognising it as a key measure of progress and success.
The UAE consistently ranks high in the annual World Happiness Report, which evaluates nations based on factors like income, social support, life expectancy, freedom and generosity.
This year's celebration carries extra significance as it coincides with the 'Year of Community', a national initiative focused on promoting happiness, stability, and cooperation among all members of society.
Over the years, the UAE has introduced numerous government initiatives to boost community happiness, including the creation of the Minister of State for Happiness role in 2016.
This position was later expanded in 2017 to include well-being, and in 2020, the Quality of Life and Happiness portfolio was transferred to the Ministry of Community Development.
The International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations General Assembly on June 28, 2012.
It recognises the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.
