The UAE has seen a 62 per cent decrease in COVID-19 infection rates in August, compared to January.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the UAE health sector's official spokesperson said the drop in infections indicates the success of the country's strategy in curbing the spread of the virus.

During the latest government media briefing on Tuesday, the senior official highlighted the role of vaccines, including that of booster shots, in keeping the case tally low.

Dr. Al Hosani reiterated that the vaccines approved in the country are safe to be administered. She also advised parents to get their children vaccinated.

"We have returned to our workplaces, our students have returned to classrooms, and the capacity limits of public facilities have increased. This is evidence of our success in approaching the stage of recovery," Dr. Al Hosani explained.

The UAE reported 996 new cases of COVID-19 on August 31. 76.12 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated so far, while 87.19 per cent has received the first dose.
