The UAE has pledged $15 million towards rebuilding lives and rehabilitating homes and businesses that have been destroyed after Israeli forces attacked the Palestinian city of Jenin and its camp.
According to the national news agency WAM, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed the need to release urgent relief for the Palestinian families during a phone call with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
It follows the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to "open a joint account" with the agency, which plays a "pivotal role" in "improving the lives of Palestinian refugees".
Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting UNRWA and praised the agency's efforts in improving the lives of Palestinian refugees.
He also stressed the need to re-energise international efforts for a ceasefire and the revival of the peace process in the Middle East.
Lazzarini took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the continuous support provided by the UAE, with a special mention of the recently allocated $20 million this year.
