UAE President launches 'Barakatna' to support senior citizens

WAM

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has launched the 'Barakatna' initiative, aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of senior citizens in Abu Dhabi.

The initiative, led by Abu Dhabi's Department of Community Development in collaboration with the Family Development Foundation and other local entities, focuses on improving home care services for seniors and supporting caregivers.

Sheikh Mohamed said the programme reflects the UAE’s deep respect and gratitude for the contributions of senior citizens, calling them a vital pillar of society whose wisdom continues to guide future generations.

Barakatna will offer a range of services, including temporary care when families are unavailable, home improvements for seniors, extended housing loan terms, and flexible work options for caregivers — all designed to promote family cohesion and quality of life.

The announcement was made at Qasr Al Bahr in the presence of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khaled said the initiative is a reflection of the UAE’s enduring values and commitment to honouring those who laid the foundations of the nation.
