The UAE's drug regulator has announced a precautionary recall of some Nestlé infant formula products over a potential toxin risk.
In a statement released on national news agency Wam, the Emirates Drug Establishment said the "voluntary and precautionary recall of a limited number of infant formula products" was done in "coordination with Nestlé".
The recalled products include NAN Comfort 1, NAN OPTIPRO 1, NAN SUPREME PRO 1, 2, 3, S-26 Ultima 1, 2, 3, and Alfamino.
The UAE authority clarified that, to date, no illness or adverse events linked to the affected batches have been reported or confirmed, and that all other Nestlé products remain safe for consumption.
The affected batches, they added, have been quarantined in the company’s and distributors’ warehouses, and that efforts are ongoing to complete the recall of any remaining quantities in accordance with approved regulatory procedures.
Efforts are ongoing to complete removal of the affected batches from all points of sale, including online retail platforms, in accordance with approved regulatory procedures and relevant UAE authorities.
It comes after Nestle, on Monday, announced the recall of specific batches of its SMA infant formula and follow-on formula due to the potential presence of a toxin that could lead to nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
According to Reuters, Qatar has also warned consumers against using specific batches of Nestle infant formula products over suspected contamination with cereulide toxin, the Qatari state news agency reported.
