The UAE has summoned Iran's charge d'affaires in Abu Dhabi in response to an 'unacceptable' speech by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
According to national news agency WAM, Khalifa Shaheen Al Marri, the UAE's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs, handed him a strongly worded note about Rouhani's speech regarding the Emirate's sovereign decisions.
The note warned the Persian country about its responsibility to protect the UAE Mission in Tehran and its diplomats in accordance to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, amid reported attacks on foreign diplomatic missions in Iran.
The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the Iranian president's speech was 'inflammatory' and may have serious repercussions on the security and stability of the Gulf Region.
Rouhani's address came following the peace treaty signed between the UAE and the State of Israel on Thursday.
