The UAE, alongside the GCC and Jordan, has announced its support for Bahrain's resolution to the United Nations' Security Council that affirms the need for the Strait of Hormuz to be opened for all transit passage without any state control.
The resolution notes that states should be authorised to take defensive measures to secure the transit passage and prevent any acts that hinder international navigation through the Strait.
Bahrain's draft also highlights the creation of a legal basis that should be provided for all states following international law and international humanitarian law, while supporting safe passage.
It added that countries under this authorisation must notify and report to the United Nations, in addition to the creation of a monitoring mechanism that the UN Secretary General reports on monthly, to allow for any further actions by the UN Security Council based on new developments.

The UAE's support was further affirmed by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, during her participation in a virtual meeting hosted by the UK on the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting included foreign ministers of up to 40 countries, including France, Germany, Canada, and India, with discussions held on joint action to reopen the Strait.
The UAE minister further emphasised that Iran’s attacks against commercial vessels in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait constitute economic warfare and piracy.
