Scamsters are increasingly using deepfake videos and audios to spread false information, the UAE Cybersecurity Council has warned, urging the public to remain extra cautious while sharing content on social media.
The Council reminded people to refrain from posting content that appear to feature local personalities or entities if it's not verified or posted on official channels.
Official said they've noticed an increase in the use of AI tools to accurately replicate the images and voices of people positions of power.
It warned that such content can be used to easily mislead audiences and spread false or harmful information online.
The Council reminded that those caught spreading unverified news and caught in online scams will face legal penalties. It could include fines of up to AED 500,000 and prison sentences depending on the violation.
