The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has unveiled the first images captured by MBZ-SAT and Etihad-SAT, marking a major milestone in the UAE’s satellite imaging capabilities.
The release coincides with World Space Week 2025, which celebrates global achievements in space science and technology.
The two satellites support key sectors like disaster management, smart agriculture and infrastructure development, delivering fast, precise Earth observation data.
MBZ-SAT, launched in January, is the region’s most advanced optical imaging satellite, developed by Emirati engineers, with 90 per cent of its mechanical structures manufactured locally.
It features ultra-high-resolution cameras, advanced propulsion and navigation systems — with images delivered in under two hours, a tenfold improvement over previous models.
Etihad-SAT, launched in March, is the MBRSC's first radar-based satellite, capable of capturing detailed images day or night, in any weather.
Its applications range from oil spill monitoring to precision farming, and is powered by AI-enhanced data processing.
Officials say the release of these images reflects the UAE’s strategic investment in space technology, with local partnerships strengthening the nation’s industrial base.
The MBRSC's Chairman Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori praised the role of Emirati talent and leadership vision, while Director-General Salem Al Marri highlighted the Centre’s mission to build a diversified fleet that supports both national and global priorities.
Together, MBZ-SAT and Etihad-SAT showcase the UAE’s growing leadership in space — offering cutting-edge solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
