The world’s first pediatric centre dedicated for research on rare diseases has been named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Zayed Centre, set to open in the UK in 2018, is a partnership between The Great Ormond Street Hospital, University College London and The Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The centre will be the first of its kind in the world to bring health professionals under one roof with the aim to find new treatments and cures for children with rare diseases. The facility was given approximately AED 335 million in funding from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the wife of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the UAE Family Development Foundation and President of the UAE Supreme Council of Motherhood and Childhood.
