US Secretary of State John Kerry visited Abu Dhabi on Monday to discuss the situation in the Middle East. Kerry met with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as well as His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs. Kerry discussed the current volatile situation in the Middle East and the UAE’s progress in the war in Yemen against the Houthi rebels. “We respect what the UAE has been able to do to be able to accomplish significant progress in Yemen,” he said. He thanked the UAE for its commitment to the Yemeni cause and recognised the sacrifices made by the UAE forces to bring peace to the country. Kerry also briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the recent talks in Vienna about the crisis in Syria. They discussed global coalition efforts to counter extremism and terrorism, stressing the importance of greater co-ordination and co-operation.
