His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, chaired a meeting of the Council’s Board of Directors to review major initiatives and events aimed at strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading global sports destination.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mansoor highlighted the important role sport plays in improving quality of life, supporting communities, developing talent and driving economic growth.
He congratulated Dubai Basketball Club on its impressive achievements in European competition, as well as Hatta Club and United Club on securing promotion to the UAE Pro League.
He also praised Palm City 365 Club for winning the UAE FA Cup, describing these clubs as successful examples of Dubai’s growing sports investment model.
The Board reviewed preparations for the second edition of the World Sports Summit, which Sheikh Mansoor said has become an important international platform for shaping the future of sport and strengthening cooperation across the global sports sector.
Members also discussed plans to support government and private clubs through the Club Accelerators Programme, which aims to boost sustainable growth and increase commercial revenues across Dubai’s sports clubs.
The meeting reviewed progress on the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, with nearly three-quarters of initiatives for 2025 and 2026 already under implementation.
The Board also reviewed a packed calendar of major sporting events scheduled for the second half of 2026, including the World Sports Summit, FIFA Awards, Dubai Fitness Challenge, Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, Dubai Marathon, and several world championship events across a range of sports.
The meeting concluded with the approval of new board committees to support sports development, investment, football, and the hosting of major international events.
