New Zealand ended day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka on 203 for 5 in Galle.

Play was called off early due to heavy rain, with 22 overs still left to bowl.

Ross Taylor was unbeaten on 86, while off-spinner Akila Dananjaya took all five of New Zealand's wickets.

The Black Caps have struggled at this venue having lost all three previous Tests.

The two-Test series is the first for both teams in the newly launched World Test Championship, which features nine nations competing in a league across two years.
