Shopping malls, food retailers and pharmacies in Abu Dhabi are required to install thermal scanning systems and cameras at their main entrances.
According to a circular issued by the Department of Economic Development (ADDED), these devices have to be rented through the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA).
The thermal cameras will be linked to NCEMA, and in return, establishments will have to pay a fee, which will be determined at a later stage.
The DED has also ordered malls to ensure that they only operate at 30 per cent capacity, while making sure that shoppers don’t stay beyond two hours.
“The new circular is part of the constant coordination and cooperation between the Department and the NCEMA in ensuring all necessary measures in the emirate for public health and safety against COVID-19,” said Rashed Abdul Karim Al Balooshi, Undersecretary of ADDED.
Al Balooshi added that shopping centres that comply with the terms and conditions will be granted permission to reopen and receive visitors.
ADDED has issued a circular to the managers and owners of shopping malls, grocery stores and pharmacies in the emirate of Abu Dhabi regarding the installation of thermal cameras at the main entrances of their facilities. The cameras are available for rent from @NCEMAUAE pic.twitter.com/Gd1r1F5Stb
