In a major step towards sustainability, Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), has launched its innovative Green bus service.
These new buses, powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy, are part of the Green Bus Programme aimed at turning Abu Dhabi Island into a green public transport zone by 2030.
The Green Bus service will operate on Route 65, connecting Marina Mall with Shams Boutik on Al Reem Island.
The assessment period for the Green Bus Programme, which began in November 2023, will run until June 2025.
During this period, bus operators and technicians will undergo extensive training in hydrogen and electric bus technologies. This includes practical training opportunities in South Korea and China.
As Abu Dhabi's public bus fleet transitions from diesel fuel to renewable energy, it is anticipated that annual carbon dioxide emissions in the emirate will be reduced by more than 100,000 metric tonnes.
The initiative represents a collaborative effort between public and private sectors, with Abu Dhabi Mobility partnering with international and local stakeholders to set new standards for green buses.
