Dubai Police have impounded 251 vehicles and recorded 524 traffic violations since the start of Ramadan as part of a crackdown on excessive vehicle noise and illegal modifications.
Authorities warned motorists against disruptive behaviours such as modifying engines or exhaust systems, or driving in a reckless, showy manner that creates loud noise and disturbs residents.
Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, said such practices undermine road safety and negatively affect the sense of comfort and security in the community.
He explained that the noise often results from unauthorised engine or exhaust modifications or dangerous driving styles, which can also pose risks to other road users.
According to police statistics, the violations included 220 offences for vehicles causing excessive noise and 304 offences for unauthorised engine modifications.
Al Mazrouei said the penalties were enforced under Local Decree No. 30 of 2023, which allows authorities to impose an impoundment release fee of up to AED 50,000 for serious traffic violations, with some drivers also referred for further legal action.
Dubai Police say traffic patrols and monitoring campaigns will continue to target offending vehicles.
Members of the public can report dangerous driving through the 'We Are All Police' service on 901 or the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app.
