Four people were killed and 25 injured in accidents involving electric scooters, bicycles and e-bikes in Dubai in the first six months of 2024.
During the same period, Dubai Police confiscated a total of 4,474 scooters and bicycles for flouting safety rules, while 7,804 violations were recorded against reckless riders.
The authority emphasised the importance of complying with speed limits and safety measures, including using designated lanes, wearing appropriate clothing and helmets, and avoiding riding at night or in adverse weather conditions.
"In the first half of 2024, accidents involving e-scooters, bicycles and electric bikes resulted in four fatalities, one severe injury, 19 moderate injuries, and five minor injuries," said Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police.
Al Ghaithi urged riders to use designated paths and not to ride against traffic as well as on roads with a speed limit exceeding 60 km/h. It's also illegal to carry passengers.
He also called on the public to report illegal activities and dangerous behaviours through the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police app or via the non-emergency number 901.
