The UAE has become the third country in the world to approve Foundayo (orforglipron) for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes.
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) approved the new use of the medication, developed by Eli Lilly, following its earlier approval for weight management in April.
Foundayo is a once-daily oral medication designed to help control blood sugar levels while also supporting long-term weight management.
It is intended to be used under medical supervision, alongside a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
The EDE said the approval is part of efforts to expand access to innovative treatments and provide more options for managing chronic diseases.
It also stressed the importance of regular screening, early detection and ongoing medical follow-up to help manage type 2 diabetes and reduce the risk of complications.
