Abu Dhabi expands freelancer licence to include 30 new activities

Abu Dhabi's Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has expanded its freelancer licence to include 30 new activities.

This move opens up a broader range of business opportunities for UAE nationals and residents, supporting the emirate’s efforts to fostering entrepreneurship and reducing business setup costs.

The newly announced activities cover areas such as Artificial Intelligence development, electronic equipment and devices systems & software designing, oil and gas fields production software design, data classification & analysis, 3D imaging production models, development and innovation in computer systems & programmes, and online players support services.

With these additions, the expanded licence now includes 100 different activities.

Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre at ADDED, highlighted the growing interest in the freelancer licence, noting that over the past year, 1,013 licences have been issued.

He emphasised the department’s dedication to enhancing Abu Dhabi’s innovation environment and its role in attracting talent and investment.

To apply for the licence, individuals must demonstrate relevant experience or academic qualifications in a specific field or industry.
