Elton John becomes latest celebrity to quit Twitter

Singer Elton John has become the latest celebrity after Gigi Hadid, Jim Carrey and Whoopi Goldberg to quit Twitter over concerns of "misinformation" on the social media platform.

"All my life I've tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world," he wrote on Twitter.

"I've decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked."

In response, Twitter CEO Elon Musk wrote he hoped to see the singer return.

"I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you're concerned about?"

Since Musk's $44 billion takeover of the social media sit, there have been a number of controversial policy changes, including the decision to no longer enforce the COVID-19 misleading information rule and to charge for the blue-tick verification.
