Disney's animated film 'Lightyear' will not be released in the UAE, the country's media regulator said on Monday.

In a social media post, the Media Regulatory Office said Lightyear "is not licensed for public screening... due to its violation of the country's media content standards".

The movie, which was set to release on June 16, is not expected to be screened in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane helms the latest film in the "Toy Story" franchise, with Chris Evans lending his voice to Buzz.

The movie presents the origin story of Buzz Lightyear.
