Celebrated singer Rihanna has made a $5 million contribution to coronavirus relief efforts through her Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF).

The 32-year-old singer's foundation announced the contribution on its Twitter account on Saturday.

"Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities -- those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic," said Justine Lucas, Executive Director of the Clara Lionel Foundation.

The funds will go towards the cost of development of vaccines, train healthcare workers, contribute to the local food banks, purchase protective equipment, and provide funds to help countries such as Haiti and Malawi.
