11 Pakistani security personnel killed in explosion near Afghan border

Pakistan's military has revealed that Monday's attack on a checkpoint in the country's Bajur district killed 11 security personnel and wounded seven civilians.

According to the military, the attackers had rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into the checkpoint along the Afghan border after security forces blocked their attempt to enter a residential compound for soldiers.

Authorities added that a baby died in the incident.

Twelve attackers were killed as they attempted to flee the scene, officials said.

Terror group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has stepped up its attacks since it revoked a ceasefire with Islamabad in late 2022.

Pakistan blames Afghanistan for providing a safe haven to terrorists, a charge Kabul's Taliban government has repeatedly denied.
