At least two people are in a critical condition after a migrant boat capsized off the coast of Libya.

The UN refugee agency took to Twitter to confirm that the Libyan coast guards had successfully rescued 70 people "after days in distress at sea".

The incident took place off the western city of Misrata as the Libyan migrants were making their way to Europe.

An independent support group for people crossing the Mediterranean Sea said they had received calls from the migrants on board, with many "desperately calling for help and are afraid to die".
