Cornel Feruta has been named as the acting Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

It comes after the death of Yukiya Amano earlier this week.

Members of the board held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday in which they decided to designate the Romanian official as acting director general.

During the meeting, all attendees stood a moment of silence as a respect gesture for the achievements of the late Japanese director.
