Home to a diverse array of rich ecosystems that need sustainable interventions, Abu Dhabi Is increasing focus on the protection of its natural habitat with a new biodiversity policy.
In a decree issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency (EAD) in Abu Dhabi, the new policy will address the challenges in the emirate's natural habitats.
It will focus on the loss and degradation of natural habitats, climate change and unsustainable resource use, as well as producing nature-based solutions along with social and economic factors.
Regulatory frameworks for biodiversity will be strengthened, with hopes to raise awareness on its significance in the UAE.
The decree coincides with the IUCN World Conservation Congress, which is being held in the emirate until October 15, reflecting Abu Dhabi’s leading global role in environmental protection.
