Doctors at Dubai Hospital have restored the eyesight of a patient who went blind for 25 days.

The patient, in his fifties, lost vision in his left eye due to a cyst in the sphenoid sinus, which extended to the brain and was pressing on the optic nerve.

Dr. Iyad Hamadi, ENT consultant said the patient was referred to Dubai Hospital due to the high expertise required to conduct such a rare and precise surgery.

During the operation, which took 45 minutes under general anaesthesia, an endoscopic procedure was conducted through the sphenoid sinus to remove the cyst.

Dr. Hamadi said that the surgery was successfully completed without any complications and the patient’s vision started to improve within a few hours, and was completely restored after two weeks from the procedure.
