Dubai Humanitarian has launched a series of airlifts to deliver vital medical aid to Gaza via El Arish, Egypt.
This comes following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,
The airlifts, coordinated with the World Health Organisation (WHO), aim to support the ongoing humanitarian efforts in the territory.
The first airlift, which took off on Friday, carried nearly 68 metric tonnes of primary health kits from the WHO's stockpiles in Dubai Humanitarian.
With Gaza's healthcare system in a fragile state, and limited cold chain facilities, the swift delivery of these critical supplies is essential.
Since the start of the crisis 15 months ago, Dubai Humanitarian has facilitated over 1,068 tonnes of aid to Gaza through 23 airlifts and one sea shipment. These shipments have included support from WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, and the World Food Programme.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to aiding the people of Gaza, expressing hope that a ceasefire will allow for a continued flow of relief to those in need.
Robert Blanchard, Head of WHO’s Hub for Global Health Emergencies, highlighted the partnership with Dubai Humanitarian and praised the UAE’s ongoing support.
He noted that today's shipment, which includes essential medicines for treating respiratory issues, infections, and cardiovascular diseases, will provide life-saving assistance to 95,000 people for the next three months.
