Dubai Police are urging the public to watch out for fraudsters trying to take advantage of the situation around COVID-19.
The reminder comes after they busted a gang that used social media platforms to scam jobseekers.
The group would lure victims into transferring money in return for non-existent job opportunities with attractive salaries.
Officers raided their premises and found proof they had conned as many as 150 people of between AED 1,000 and AED 3,000.
They coordinated with inspectors from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to verify the information and make the arrest
"The gang would ask victims for money for some alleged reasons such as recruitment fees, taxes or booking an interview appointment," said Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID).
He called on job seekers to be on the guard against fake employment schemes and stressed that actual hiring agencies never ask for payments or any sensitive personal data from their clients.
