Fisherman rescued near Zirku island

A fisherman in distress off the coast of Zirku Island, Abu Dhabi, was successfully rescued by the National Search and Rescue Centre of the UAE National Guard.

The rescue operation was launched after a distress call was received from a fishing vessel located approximately 10 nautical miles from the island. 

The National Guard's Search and Rescue Centre quickly pinpointed the vessel’s location and coordinated a response. 

A search and rescue boat from the Coastal Guard, along with a medical team from Zirku Island Clinic, was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the injured fisherman was given immediate first aid before being transferred to the island’s clinic for further medical treatment.

The National Guard has stressed the importance of adhering to maritime safety procedures. In a statement, they urged all seafarers to be aware of emergency protocols and to contact the maritime emergency hotline (996) in case of any distress to ensure swift and effective assistance.
