Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has pledged AED 36.7 million to support sustainable projects and programmes by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to assist forcibly displaced communities.
This contribution brings MBRGI’s total donations to AED 163.6 million since 2021.
The pledge was formalized through a cooperation agreement signed at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland.
The agreement underscores MBRGI’s commitment to providing strategic humanitarian support and empowering refugee and displaced communities through projects designed to improve their living conditions.
The agreement was signed by Saeed Al Eter, Assistant Secretary General at MBRGI, and Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, with Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary General of MBRGI, in attendance.
In a statement, Al Gergawi emphasized that the pledge aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support vulnerable communities around the world.
“We aim to alleviate suffering, empower individuals, and instil hope through these initiatives,” Al Gergawi said. “This partnership with UNHCR strengthens our ongoing efforts to support the UN’s mission and make a tangible difference in the lives of millions."
UNHCR’s Grandi thanked MBRGI for its ongoing support, highlighting the critical role these contributions play in enabling the agency to fulfill its mission of supporting vulnerable populations.
He also stressed the importance of their collaboration in ensuring the sustainability of programmes for displaced people, given the rising scale of forced displacement.
Since 2021, MBRGI’s support has impacted over 700,000 refugees and displaced individuals across 13 countries.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, MBRGI also outlined a proactive agenda to further advance cooperation with international humanitarian organizations and strengthen global responses to the needs of vulnerable populations.
In 2023, MBRGI spent AED 1.8 billion to benefit over 111 million people across 105 countries, with its initiatives spanning five key pillars: Humanitarian Aid, Healthcare, Education, Innovation, and Community Empowerment.
