Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the fourth-generation traditional abras, enhancing the city's marine transport network with upgrades for safety, comfort and accessibility.
The redesigned abras now accommodate up to 24 passengers (previously 20) and fully adhere to the Dubai Universal Design Code.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted new features, including improved seating, flooring, dedicated spaces for people of determination, and advanced smart systems with real-time information screens and digital destination boards.
The RTA has also secured certifications confirming adherence to the Gulf Standard Specifications for maritime safety regulations.
The upgrades aim to improve the daily commute, integrate marine transit with Dubai’s wider public transport network, and promote marine tourism.
