Over 1,300 new food outlets open in Dubai in 2020

As many as 1,303 new food establishments opened in Dubai during the year 2020, at an average rate of 3.5 outlets per day.

According to Dubai Municipality, the total number of food establishments in the emirate at the end of last year reached 19,259, and it is expected to reach 20,000 before the start of Expo 2020 in October.

Sultan Al Taher, Director of Food Inspection Section at the Municipality, said the increasing number of outlets indicates Dubai's global reputation as well as investor confidence in the emirate.

He added that many international food outlets want to open their branches in Dubai, or start their food business in the emirate, and the reason for this is the procedures and laws that facilitate the process of trade exchange, in addition to the growing confidence between different sectors and investors.

"When the year 2020 witnessed the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in various countries of the world, Dubai took all necessary preventive and precautionary measures, which strengthened its position as one of the safest and most secure cities in the world, which confirms its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its residents and visitors that comes at the top of its priorities," pointed out Al Taher.

"Dubai government has also provided support to the economic sectors, through economic stimulus packages, to ensure business continuity and sustainability, and succeeded in the gradual return of economic life," he added.
