COP28 officially kicked off at Expo City Dubai on Thursday, with an important milestone on day one - the formal approval of a Climate Disaster Fund.
The UAE pledged $100 million to the fund, which will help vulnerable nations cope with the cost of climate-driven damage from drought, floods and rising seas. Germany matched the UAE's pledge, while the UK, the US and Japan also made contributions.
