Marking the first UN International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, the Minister of State for Food and Water Security, Mariam Hareb Almheiri, said wastage is being tackled.
Almheiri stressed that practical solutions are required to ensure sustainability and to help end hunger.
She added that the UAE is prioritising the issue of loss and waste as the main objectives of the National Food Security Strategy.
Almheiri also noted that supporting relevant partners in the public and private sectors, as well as individuals, will help to achieve this goal.
The Minister emphasised that the world is facing significant food challenges caused by the pandemic.
She noted how the UAE has taken many proactive steps to reduce food loss and waste, most notably the formation of the National Food Loss and Waste Reduction Committee.
The UN has instigated international awareness day to transform and rebalance the way food is produced and consumed.
