Authorities in Sharjah have arrested a woman for blackmailing a man in less than 24 hours after the victim's audio clip about the plot went viral on social media.
According to reports, the man had given the woman a lift in his car when she told him he could not afford to pay for a taxi. Once inside the vehicle, the suspect threatened to accuse the man of attempted rape if he did not pay up.
Teams from Sharjah Police were quick on the ground and were able to identify the woman within 24 hours of being alerted about the social media post.
Officials have urged the public to report such incidents to the authorities and to refrain from publishing on social media.
