Starting November 1, Sharjah Police will enforce new lane rules for motorcycles, heavy vehicles and buses to improve road safety across the emirate.
In cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority, Sharjah Police have designated specific lanes for each vehicle type on major and secondary roads.
Heavy vehicles and buses must stay in the far-right lane, while motorcycles are allowed to use the third and fourth lanes from the right on four-lane roads.
On three-lane roads, motorcycles may use the middle or right lane, and on two-lane roads, only the right lane must be used.
The rules aim to regulate traffic, reduce congestion and improve safety standards. Smart radars, surveillance cameras and patrols will monitor compliance around the clock.
Violations will carry penalties under the Federal Traffic Law — including fines of AED 1,500 and 12 black points for heavy vehicles that do not follow their designated lanes, and AED 500 for failing to comply with traffic signs and instructions.
