Although it doesn’t rain often in the UAE, the country and the wider GCC region is in severe need of a drainage system, according to experts at Birco, a drainage manufacturing company. The General manager of Birco Middle East, Johann Groult says the problem isn’t the frequency of the rain, but the intensity due to climate change. A better drainage system is needed in parts of the UAE which have a high water table and are more prone to flooding. In Dubai, these include areas like the Green Community roundabout, parts of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road as well as various underpasses around the city.
