UAE minister calls for political dialogue to resolve regional conflicts

WAM

The UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reiterated the country’s support for the UN-led political process in Yemen.

While addressing the annual Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate, Dr. Anwar Gargash highlighted how the Arab Coalition had prevented the Houthis and Al Qaida from dividing Yemen.

He said the UAE would continue to work within the Coalition to provide humanitarian aid and protect maritime security.

Dr. Gargash also hailed the Saudi-brokered agreement that was signed recently between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council.

In his speech, Dr. Gargash reviewed regional developments and expressed optimism regarding the potential for significant progress over the next year, noting, "We have reached critical junctures in major conflicts and challenges across our region."

Referring to the successful example of Sudan’s transition, he said, "We need to be ready to act in unison to resolve conflicts between states, and to encourage countries to resolve any internal conflicts through political dialogue."

Meanwhile, on Iran, Dr. Gargash emphasised the importance of diplomacy and de-escalation. He called for policymakers to explore constructive ideas to create a "new, more stable regional order in which all countries will be able to thrive."
