On World Humanitarian Day, a joint statement from the UAE, United States, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations has been issued on Sudan.
The statement began with a moment of silence to honour humanitarian workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
It emphasises the urgent need to reopen critical supply routes in Sudan to deliver food and medicine to those in dire need. Since April 2023, at least 22 aid workers have been killed and 34 injured in the African nation.
"We stand in solidarity with all Sudanese and international humanitarian workers in Sudan who have been working tirelessly each day to serve people in need across the country, often facing immense risks to do so," the statement added.
It also calls on all parties involved in the conflict to protect civilians and aid workers, and to adhere to international humanitarian law as outlined in the Jeddah Declaration. The message underscores a commitment to "Act For Humanity" and urges all parties to do the same.
