The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has delivered more aid to help the most vulnerable groups displaced by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria in 2023.
Led by Khalfan Sarhan Al Rumaithi, Director of the Volunteer Department at ERC, the UAE delegation distributed humanitarian aid, including food, winter clothing, and blankets, as part of the "Be Their Warmth" campaign.
Conducted in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), the initiative aims to help individuals cope with the harsh winter conditions.
The UAE is also working towards completing the construction of 1,000 housing units for those who lost their homes in Latakia. As many as 237 units across three sites have already been completed, with the remaining units scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year.
Under the "Galant Knight 2" operation, the UAE launched the "My School, My Identity" initiative to focus on the maintenance of 40 government schools that cater to 20,000 students. Additionally, the "Education Knights" initiative encompasses the maintenance of Tishreen University in Latakia, providing it with 277 computers, 204 desks, 60 chairs for dentistry, and six mobile X-ray devices. This will benefit 30,000 students.
Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Acting Secretary-General of ERC, emphasised that the upcoming phase will witness the implementation of more humanitarian, developmental, and sustainable programmes in Syria.
He stated that the authority is actively working to restore normalcy in the affected areas, striving to meet the increasing needs of the affected individuals and contribute significantly to development and reconstruction efforts.
