New, more intense traffic patrols on intersections and pedestrian crossings are set to make school bus journeys even safer, in a plan announced by Abu Dhabi Police.
Dean Mahmoud Youssef Al-Balushi, Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, confirmed the plan to ensure traffic safety for students for the 2023-24 academic year.
The plan, in cooperation with strategic partners, reinforces the safe return of students to school, while achieving the highest levels of traffic safety for pupils under the slogan “Our children are safe.”

The strategy covers intersections and internal and external roads in the UAE, along with traffic patrols to regulate traffic and facilitate school bus movement, and also ensures the safety of pedestrian crossings for students getting on and off the bus.
Meetings are to be held with various strategic partners, aimed at supporting efforts to maintain the safety of students and teaching staff.
Al-Balushi also intends to intensify awareness programs, to promote positive traffic behaviour of road users and their familiarity with laws and regulations. The focus will also be on driver’s awareness, the importance of attention while driving their vehicles and reducing speeds near schools.
He also urged school bus drivers to park in designated and safe spaces, and give students the opportunity to safety get on and off the school bus before moving.
