The UAE has updated its COVID-19 protocol for mosques across the country, including changes to operating ablution facilities, vaccination requirements, and access to the women's prayer areas.
The updates were issued during a press briefing from the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA).
Ablution areas should only operate with alternate basins. This means, one washbasin between two other bays must be closed.
Additionally, the ablution space and restrooms must be sanitized after each prayer and in periodic intervals. Toilet papers must be provided.
As for individual safety, hands must be sanitized after ablution, in addition to maintaining a 1.5-meter physical distance between other users.
With regard to safety in the prayer area, mosques on external roads can resume operating once again.
Women’s prayer areas are also permitted to reopen.

However, mosques shall be closed after prayers and restrict access outside prayer times.
Importantly, the Imam and cleaning staff must be vaccinated and are required to take a PCR test every 14 days.
They are also obliged to link their COVID-19 test reports to the Al Hosn app and refrain from entering the place of worship if COVID-19 symptoms are detected.
These updated protocols and precautionary measures must be printed and displayed in mosques in English, Arabic, and Urdu.
