Bianca Andreescu has been named Canada’s top athlete of the year.

The 19-year-old is the first tennis player to be awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy, which is selected by a panel of sports journalists.

Earlier this year, Andreescu became the first Canadian to clinch a Grand Slam singles title, with victory at the US Open.

Other nominees for the honour included Brooke Henderson (golf), Jordan Binnington (ice hockey), Andre De Grasse (athletics) and Mike Soroka (baseball).
