High drama already at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Madison Brengle

Madison Brengle has produced an upset in the very first match of the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. She defeated the former world number eight Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Makarova only returned from a leg injury in Australia last month, but couldn’t continue her comeback against Brengle, who’s making her Dubai debut. Andrea Petkovic has also progressed to the second round after beating Camila Giorgi of Italy 6-2, 6-1. The evening session begins at 7pm with Germany’s Julia Goerges facing two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova on Centre Court. That match will be followed by last year’s beaten finalist Karolina Pliskova taking on USA’s Coco Vandeweghe. Full coverage on Dubai Eye 103.8 live from the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium until 10pm this evening.
