Dubai continues to play a crucial role in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world, particularly to developing nations.
More than 600 tonnes of vaccines have been flown by the freight division of Emirates through Dubai.
As many as 150 million doses of six different types of vaccines have been transported to more than 80 destinations across six continents.
Incidentally, it was on July 6 in 1885 that Louis Pasteur administered the first attenuated vaccine to a human patient.
Over the next 135 years, the development of vaccines for various diseases grew by leaps and bounds.
In January 2020, Emirates SkyCargo joined hands with DP World, International Humanitarian City and Dubai Airports to form the Dubai Vaccine Logistics Alliance aimed at rapidly transporting COVID-19 vaccines to developing countries.
This was shortly followed up in February 2020 with an MoU with UNICEF to expedite the transportation of vaccines under the COVAX initiative.
On this day 136 years ago, the first modern vaccine was administered to a human patient. Today Emirates SkyCargo is proud to announce it has crossed the milestone of transporting 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses. https://t.co/9pFBp57T3D#OnThisDay #EmiratesSkyCargo pic.twitter.com/W2blxdrWyZ
