UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan condemned the drone strike near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant during a phone call on Sunday with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi.

The attack caused a fire in an electricity generator located outside the inner perimeter of the plant in Al Dhafra region.

Authorities said there were no injuries and no impact on radiation safety levels.

During the call, Sheikh Abdullah described the targeting of civilian infrastructure as a violation of international law and said the UAE reserved the right to respond and take measures to protect its security and territorial integrity.

The two sides also discussed cooperation between the UAE and the International Atomic Energy Agency, including efforts to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy in line with international safety and security standards.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s support for the IAEA’s role in promoting nuclear safety and security internationally.
